Free book! Myths of the Circular Economy
…When we talk about the circular economy in Germany, our thoughts often turn quickly to plastic, recycling, and how our waste management system works. However, ‘Myths of the Circular Economy’ reveals that the circular economy encompasses far more than that.
A total of 32 authors from academia and industry responded to the call of us editors Alexa Böckel, Jan Quaing, Julia Böhm and myself to explore the myths they encounter in their daily work. The book is aimed at anyone interested in the circular economy approach —whether sceptics, enthusiastic advocates, or those still undecided. The key takeaways at the end of each chapter, along with practical recommendations for action, make for a structured reading experience that encourages implementation.
Written in accessible language, founders and researchers introduce readers to the circular economy, explaining the key concepts currently being discussed. For example, the so-called R-strategies not only include recycling but also address more resource-efficient approaches. The circular economy has a strong social dimension—after all, without consumers and the willingness of citizens, transformation cannot take place.
This collection provides an overview of common myths surrounding the circular economy and how they spread through business models and digital technologies. Each myth is countered with a real-world example, demonstrating just how much is already possible. The book places a particular focus on the construction and fashion industries, shedding light on their role in advancing circularity.
